Our curriculum in action!

Please see our school video (at the bottom of the main website page) and also individual class pages (click on the year group above) to see our curriculum in action!

This year, St Alban's children have met a number of authors and illustrators.  We welcomed children's authors Caryl Hart, Smriti Halls and Effua Gleed into our classrooms. They talked about how and why they became authors and they read their latest books to the children. Some children have also met authors on trips to the British Library.  Jordan Stephens and Hannah Lee read their newest books to us and we created illustrations alongside illustrator Allen Fatimaharan.

There are more author visits planned for the academic year 2024 - 2025!

Love of Reading Week 2024 was a busy week full of exciting activities to encourage reading and celebrate books. We invited children's author Effua Gleed in to tell us about her books. The whole school went on a trip to Waterstones in Holborn to buy our World Book Day books. We welcomed parents into classrooms to look at their children's books and to read their writing. Some classes did Drop and Read sessions. The best day, however, was World Book Day! We all dressed up as Words or as our favourite book characters.

Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

Art Week at St Alban's is an annual event in October. We use this exciting week to promote a love and understand of art and artists. As our art week coincides with Black History Month, the children learn of the impact of Black artists and how they used their talents to create works that reflect their community and culture. We celebrate the art the children have created during the week by having an art exhibition.
