Partnership with our church

Our Church

As a school we work in very close partnership with our church – St Alban the Martyr, Holborn. The vicar, Father Christopher Smith, and curate, are very much an active part of the school community and are always available to listen and encourage both children and staff.

Each week a class Mass is held in the church. The children are very much involved in planning and preparing for the Mass. These times of worship are very special and provide all children with the opportunity to engage in worship at an age appropriate level. They also provide children with the opportunity to be still, quiet and reflective on the things that are important in life to them.

Every Thursday, a member of the clergy team leads the daily act of worship in school.

The major Christian festivals are always celebrated with a Mass either in the church or in school. Our Collective Worship team, made up of year 6 children, help to prepare for these services.

Children regularly visit the church as part of their RE learning. It is a wonderful resource which we are proud to have on our door step.

Children attend the Family Mass on Sundays, followed by a children's activity club called JAM (Jesus and Me). There is also a Children and Young People's Ministry, who go on pilgrimage to Walsingham and a confirmation weekend at Carroty Wood.

We welcome all new parents in the community to join us at our Parent Toddler and Baby drop in every Monday from 9:00 - 11.00 at the St. Alban's Centre on Baldwin's Garden. No need to register, just drop by.

The annual Fun Day provides a real opportunity to bring the church, school and local community together. It is in the school where these communities are able to meet and together celebrate our humanity in all its diversity.

JAM (Jesus And Me) is our Sunday morning activity club. It is a great opportunity to get together and have fun whilst learning about the Christian Faith.

We meet every Sunday Morning 10.45-12.15 in The St Alban's Centre. http://children.stalbansholborn.co.uk/

The importance of prayer in our school

We pray every day together in a variety of ways. There are formal prayers during the day when pupils come together as a class to offer their day to God in the mornings, to bless their food and thank God for it at lunchtimes and to ask for God’s continued protection at the end of the school day.

The school holds regular assemblies when pupils are encouraged to pray and praise God through song and through prayers created by themselves. If a pupil wishes to petition God they are encouraged to write their prayer on a leaf-shaped card and tie it on to the Prayer Tree.

Pupils are given the opportunity to plan and lead an act of worship weekly. They plan and write prayers as part of classroom and whole school assemblies and prayer services. In every year group two children are chosen as prayer leaders and they lead prayer in the daily acts of collective worship.

Throughout the school year the school visits the St Alban's church, on many occasions. We attend mass and we worship in song at key Christian celebrations such as Easter and Christmas.

Parents are invited to all school prayer services and join us in worshipping with staff and pupils.
