Art Week and McMillian Coffee Event

Art Week forms an important part of our Black History Month celebrations. During this time, each year group studies an influential artist who has made a significant contribution to Black art and culture.

To celebrate the children’s creativity, we also host a showcase of their artwork alongside our Macmillan Coffee and cake event. This special event not only highlights the artistic achievements of our pupils but also helps raise valuable funds in support of cancer charities.

    International Food Fair

On 14th November, the St Alban's community came together to celebrate our International Food Fair. Children arrived in their traditional clothing, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our school. After school, families enjoyed a fair filled with activities and a wonderful selection of delicious dishes from around the world, kindly cooked and donated by our parents. We are proud to celebrate the many cultures that make our school community so special.

    Educational Visits

Educational visits support all subjects and embed the learning taking place in classrooms. Our location, minutes from Farringdon Station and Chancery Lane Underground, is ideal for exploring all that London has to offer. This autumn term, classes have visited The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Shoe Lane Library, The Portrait Gallery, Coram's Fields, The Royal Academy of Art and the Zoo. There are many more trips planned for this academic year.  Please see individual class pages for more photos and updates.

    Music lessons and the choir

Music lessons build creativity, confidence and teamwork. Our music lessons incorporate singing, playing instruments and exploring different music genres, supporting children to develop musical skills and a love for music. All children in Key Stage 2 have instrument lessons and learn to play the violin or the recorder.

The opportunity to join the choir is extended to all children from Year 2. The choir regularly perform to the community and at special events. They have performed at Coram's Fields Fireworks, the star at Shaftesbury Theatre, Hatton Garden's Christmas Market and on Leather Lane.

    Food and Nutrition Week

Food and nutrition are key components of the design and technology curriculum, where pupils learn to cook and apply principles of healthy eating. Our goal is to instil a love of cooking and developing the life skill of feeding themselves and others affordably and healthily, both now and in the future.

    Art Week at St Alban's

    Author Visits to St Alban's

This year, St Alban's children have met a number of authors and illustrators.  We welcomed children's authors Caryl Hart, Smriti Halls and Effua Gleed into our classrooms. They talked about how and why they became authors and they read their latest books to the children. Some children have also met authors on trips to the British Library.  Jordan Stephens and Hannah Lee read their newest books to us and we created illustrations alongside illustrator Allen Fatimaharan.

There are more author visits planned for the academic year 2025 - 2026!

    Love of Reading Week

Love of Reading Week 2025 was a busy week full of exciting activities to encourage reading and celebrate books. We invited children's author Effua Gleed in to tell us about her books. The whole school went on a trip to Waterstones in Holborn to buy our World Book Day books. We welcomed parents into classrooms to look at their children's books and to read their writing. Some classes did Drop and Read sessions. The best day, however, was World Book Day! We all dressed up as Words or as our favourite book characters.

Have a look at the children's recent Design and Technology projects

Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

    Art Week at St Alban's

Art Week at St Alban's is an annual event in October. We use this exciting week to promote a love and understanding of art and artists. As our art week coincides with Black History Month, the children learn of the impact of Black artists and how they used their talents to create works that reflect their community and culture. We celebrate the art the children have created during the week by having an art exhibition.
