Letter from the Headteacher 19.03.20

19th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to share with you the following news as given to us by the Government, with regards to school closures.

‘It is with regret that I have to inform you that as from end of school tomorrow, Friday 20th March, the school will be closed to the majority of pupils at St Alban's school.  We are unsure as to how long this will be for and so will keep all parents updated as soon as we have any further information.

There are a few children who may still attend school.  We are still awaiting detailed guidance from the DfE and plans are subject to change, but outlined below are the criteria given to us for pupils who may still attend school at this time:

  1. Children of key workers.  Key workers include:
Medical, nursing and paramedic / ambulance staff, healthcare assistants and administrators (in GP practices / health clinics)
Workers in adult social care, social workers, childminders (certificate of registration needed), nursery staff (including those in private / independent and community nurseries)
    Fire and police
Delivery drivers who cannot make other childcare arrangements.
The local authority advice is that colleagues in these professions should show identification where possible to confirm their eligibility. Earlier today a text was sent out to ask parents to inform us if they come under the key worker category and if they will be requiring a school place.  Any parent who declares they are a key worker will have to provide evidence of this, as pupils cannot be accepted into school without this.
  1. Children who currently have an education, health and care plan (EHC plan) or are supported through exceptional needs grant (ENG), or are defined as vulnerable, awaiting statutory assessment and currently receiving support by social care.  We have been contacting these parents / carers separately with further information today and asking if they will require a school place.
For all pupils who will not be in school, all teachers have been, and will continue to be, extremely busy with ensuring that work is provided in a timely manner for every child in their class, as well as having time allocated for feedback.  This will predominantly be online, through the class web pages.  Please bear with us as this develops, we will continue to keep parents updated with any further information.
May I thank you on behalf of all the staff at St Alban's for your continued support and messages of goodwill that have been sent to us at this challenging time.
Please take good care of yourselves and each other.  We hope and pray that our school community will be back together again in the shortest time possible.
    Thank you everyone.

Home Learning

The staff have prepared home learning packs for your child and we will be doing our utmost to make home learning work, but we ask for your understanding as this is a new experience for all of us.

It is important for children to continue to learn so we have provided you with a list of online learning platforms which will support your child’s learning. These are available on the school website https://www.stalbanscamden.co.uk/ under the class pages and the parents tab under ‘Websites to Support Learning’.

Teachers will update class pages and the Purple Mash ‘to do’s’ pages weekly until the Easter Break: the log in details were sent home in the packs. If your child has lost their log in details, please email the school and we will get them to you.

As and when we get further information regarding school closures, we will update you accordingly as to your child’s home learning through the text messaging service and website.
