SMSC and British Values

SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural education) is integral to our teaching and learning and permeates throughout our whole curriculum and ethos.  Explicit teaching opportunities to address the key concepts are made available within our literacy, PSHE, topic and RE curriculum.  Spirituality is at the heart of our curriculum and is addressed through our class spiritual values and daily acts of worship.  Opportunities are made available for our children to reflect, pray, experience moments of awe and wonder and to think creatively.  It is because of our commitment to delivering a spiritual, moral, social and cultural education to a very high standard that we believe we are providing our children with a curriculum that is holistic and addresses all aspects of the child’s being.

At St Alban's we uphold and teach pupils about British Values which are defined as

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and belief
