Medicines and Pastoral Support

Medicine

Medicine can only be administered in school for those children who have a long term illness or condition and require it on a day to day basis during school time as prescribed by a doctor. We require a completed parent/carer permission form to be filled in and authorisation from the Headteacher to be given.

Asthma

We welcome all children with asthma to the school and encourage them to participate fully in all aspects of school life. We do however recognise that asthma is an important condition affecting many school children, and do all we can to make sure that the school environment is favourable to the children who suffer with what can be a very chronic condition. We encourage and support children to manage their own medication in school if required.

As parents and carers we require you to do the following things:

· Fill in and sign a written permission slip

· Send your child in to school with their inhaler. (If possible it would be good if a spare inhaler could be left at school)

· All inhalers are labelled and kept in classrooms or with the child. Each time a child uses an inhaler, this will be recorded with date, time and signature in the medical book.

· Children may have inhalers on their person during school time, if this has been agreed with parents and everyone feels that the child is responsible.

Epilepsy

We welcome all children with epilepsy to the school and encourage them to participate fully in all aspects of school life.

As parents and carers we require you to do the following things:

· Fill in and sign a written permission slip.

· Ensure that the school are informed regularly of your child's needs.

· Ensure that the school at all times has the right medication on site.

Pastoral Care

If children are ill or have a serious accident during the school day, we will make every effort to contact you. Please make sure that you keep the office informed with up to date contact names and numbers. In the case of a serious accident or illness we will ensure that your child receives the appropriate medical attention. We will always inform you if your child has bumped their head or had an accident during the day in the form of an accident note. This will be given to your child at the end of the day.
